Time to Change Careers?

Do you feel like a Round Peg in a Square Job?

Many talented and creative people do. Most are not doing work that even comes close to tapping their full potential. And without that, work can feel dull and lifeless.

It's hard and unfulfilling to do something for a living that doesn't give you life, isn't it?

And yet, if you're smart and talented it is so easy to remain a brilliant round peg trying to fill in those 4 corners of the square so nobody notices that you don't quite fit. Why would they? You've done a great job, been recognized and moved up.

But, deep down inside you feel a sense of discontent. It might show up when:

  • Your alarm goes off in the morning,
  • You're supposed to be enjoying your weekend
  • You hear the chirp "smartphone" for the zillionth time in a day
  • You arrive home at night exhausted from the energy it takes to do the thing that
  • brings you no passion, joy or delight.

You don't mind hard work. You've got the ethic. But you dream of working at something that makes your heart sing, that you believe in 100% and that feels important and necessary.

I call that kind of work a LIVElihood – Work that gives you life and aliveness rather than sucking it out of you. Growing ranks of round pegs are moving from Squaresville to LIVElihood-Land. You can join them.

Want to know how I know? I've done it myself and I can tell you without reserve that it is totally worth it! There's never been a better time to change.

I know, it's easy to observe everything going on in our current economic climate and think, "I should just stick it out and be grateful." Should you be grateful? You bet! Gratitude and appreciation are hugely important to a sense of well-being. Should you "stick it out?" That depends on what kind of "sticking it out" you're talking about. There are two types:

  1. Unhappy/Stuck/Confused - where you resign yourself to waiting and wishing.
  2. Intentional/Strategic/Thoughtful - where you say, "I appreciate what I have and would like to put my strengths, talents and passions to the best use possible here. And then I would like to step onward to something that suits me much better." This is where you start to vision, and plan, and move.

Which one looks more appealing? If you chose #2 you're ready and the time to start is now. You can start with 1 small step — a step so risk-free that you really can't say no to it. Once you've taken that small step, many more will follow. Suddenly you'll be taking strides, leaps and bounds toward work that feels right, exciting, fun and even effortless.

Pretty soon you've got yourself a LIVElihood.
